Gyeongbokgung Palace Vibe Check: Hanbok, History, and Healing!
Even on a weekday, Gyeongbokgung was buzzing with energy! As the #1 spot in Seoul, it’s always a favorite. Quick Tip: Entry is 3,000 KRW, but if you wear a Hanbok (traditional Korean dress), you get in for FREE! I saw so many people rocking stunning Hanboks—they looked absolutely radiant under the sun. Why is modern Hanbok so pretty these days? It makes everyone shine!
Pro Tip: Wear Comfy Shoes!
I thought I could explore everything in 1-2 hours, but boy, was I wrong! The scale of this palace is massive. My feet were screaming by the end because there’s just so much to see. Don’t make my mistake—wear your most comfortable sneakers!

The “Magic” Ground of the Palace
Did you know the ground here is specially designed? Even during a heavy downpour, the water drains away almost instantly. I might have to visit again on a rainy day just to see this magic in action! lol. The colorful Dancheong (traditional patterns) and the rhythmic stone walls are so aesthetic. It was a bit crowded for the “perfect” solo shot, but hearing the laughter of young people in Hanbok made the whole atmosphere so joyful and alive.

My Top Picks: Gyeonghoeru & Hyangwonjeong
After walking on hard stone floors, reaching the Gyeonghoeru Pavilion felt like a dream. The reflection of the pavilion on the pond was breathtaking. I also loved the stainless-steel miniature model nearby that you can actually touch!
But my absolute favorite was Hyangwonjeong, where lotus flowers float peacefully. I bet the kings of the past came here to escape their heavy workloads and find some “Zen” time. (Even kings needed a break, right? haha)

A Walk Through History
Beyond the grand buildings, I really enjoyed the quiet walking paths on the outskirts. Walking on the firm dirt path, I found myself imagining what life was like for the people of the Joseon Dynasty. Would this wide plaza have been as busy then as it is now? Probably more organized, but just as grand!
