It’s incredibly popular with photographers because the contrast between the rugged concrete texture and the blue sky allows you to capture a true “shot of a lifetime.”
The 2nd Infiltration Tunnel
Have you ever descended into an actual tunnel? Discovered in 1975, this tunnel was dug by North Korea to infiltrate the South. Right next door, you can take a monorail up to the Cheorwon Peace Observatory. Looking out at the North Korean land through binoculars, the silent fields look so peaceful that it actually makes your heart ache more.

Is it all just heavy history lessons? Not at all! Cheorwon is also a massive treasure trove of geological wonders. Walking along the basalt columnar joint paths formed by lava hundreds of thousands of years ago will leave you in constant awe.

The Hantan River, designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark, is the pride of Cheorwon. Legend says the famous bandit Im Kkeok-jeong hid here during the Joseon Dynasty. Taking a boat ride along the river is like living the life of a Taoist hermit.
The Home of Cranes
